A fire broke out east of Alpine on Tuesday afternoon after a dry lightning strike. The fire was located about two miles east of the landfill. Two volunteer fire departments, Marathon and Alpine, worked together to bring the fire under control.

The Alpine Volunteer Fire Department initially responded to the fire and was able to knock it down before the Marathon Volunteer Fire Department arrived. The Marathon department then assisted with mop-up efforts until the fire was fully extinguished. The fire burned approximately five acres of land.

Further details about the incident are available from local news sources.
